How about welcoming the New Year by donning a bright and cheery coloured dress? Sonya Vajifdar vouches for the magic of the drapes
This New Year, Designer Sonya Vajifdar chooses the drapes. She says, “Draping is a boon to Indian women. It accentuates our sexy curves, notching up the oomph factor, hiding certain flaws and giving an optical illusion that makes us appear skinnier. Therefore, I’ve used plenty of drapes, gathering a mix of fabrics like Lycra, georgette and lace.”

Her collection for this New Year consists of well styled dresses, gowns and tops with a colour palette of fashionable black, brown, silver grey, peacock blue, red and purple. Apart from styling, she has added an element of shine with silver tassels placed subtly on some of the pieces. They are all glamorous with not too much going on yet bang-on to welcome the New Year! Nachiket Barve urges you to go chic
Designer Nachiket Barve suggests - ‘Follow style, not fashion’ which is apparent in his collection. Layers, jackets with sequined patchwork, cascading dresses, and bright colours, all seem trend-setting fashion rather than trend following fashion. He says, “My fashion prediction for this New Year is about dressing chicly in wardrobe collectibles. Easy beautiful pieces that are classic yet fun, timely yet timeless. It is all about dressing according to your age, body type and personality.” If you get this equation right, well you’re good to go! Nitya Bajaj swears by the fit
For Designer Nitya Bajaj it’s all about the right fit and style as per the body type for this New Year. She predicts drapes in deeper shades with detailing on the shoulder lifts for the curvy women to contour their body perfectly. For women on the skinnier side, she suggests maxi gowns with ruched tube that flares out from the waist giving a fuller figure impression. While for the women with hour glass figures that we all envy, her prediction is asymmetric pleated dresses in metallic colours. She says, “The asymmetric pleats at the waist as seen in the picture adds detailing while the metallic colours plays the game of shade and light with the sheen of the fabric.”

Kallol Datta decides to split-it up
Designer Kallol Datta votes for the split personality dress for this New Year’s Eve. The tantalizing ruche and the twin fabric would definitely be a hit, he promises. “But remember, the dress is a double fabric dress of taffeta and lace and should be structured at the shoulders with the drape towards the hem as shown in the picture,” he exclaims.

So take time out to gaze into the crystal ball and proffer the forecasts of these young and promising fashion designers for ‘The Perfect Dress’ this New Year’s Eve. It’s all here!
